Ashley is a young and aspiring social entrepreneur and designer. Her goal is to design tools to enable prosperity for developing countries. She believes in helping people through sustainable development technologies. Haling from the small town of Santa Cruz, USA, her dreams and ambition have taken her around the globe studying intercultural communication, international business, and design. Ashley has a BS in Industrial Design with a minor in International Business.
Richard is passionate to look beyond his own cultural horizon. Therefore, he studied Physics in Germany and Australia and started his PhD-Studies focussing on strategic management for NPOs, logistics networks and complexity theory. His ambition to get in contact with other open minded people is also expressed by his participation in simulation games of the United Nations, in a student consulting company, in a ship expedition through the sub-polar north atlantic ocean or extensive backpacking trips.
Cecilia is a life learner, as a biologist she has worked in deserts, coasts, islands and cities in Mexico, learning from the environment and people, which has lead her to study all aspects together. Actually she is in the United Kingdom, doing a PhD in Sustainability, studying conflicts between the environment, economic activities and stakeholders in the Mexican Caribbean. She also believes that most of the conflicts could be solved with good will and loads of creativity.
César Noriega
Simi was born and raised in Ibadan, Nigeria. Observing the political, economic, and social instability that marked her country, Simi realized from an early age that she wanted to be instrumental in empowering people — particularly youth — to make choices that would bring about lasting change to her community and the world. Simi moved to the United States in 2001 to pursue collegiate studies. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Management at Hiram College, Ohio, along with a minor in Communication. Simi also holds a Master of Arts in Global Leadership, with a Business Communication concentration, and a Master of Arts in Student Ministry from Dallas Baptist University, in Texas.
Born in a small village called Jane Furse, South Africa, Marumo decided to move to the capital Pretoria to further his studies. While pursuing a degree in victimology and criminology at the Tshwane University of Technology, Marumo discovered his passion for working with the youth and in community development. He became a victim supporter at The Potters House, a shelter for women and children in crisis, were he gathered practical work experience and skills in fundraising and NGO management. His passion for rural development grew, when engaging in projects in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal, where more than 20% of the population live below the poverty line.

Having grown up in a working-class family in Caracas, Venezuela, César studied Journalism at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. He has been an active participant in his university’s student government and delegate to international UN simulations. He was a “Knowing Israel: 60th Anniversary of the State of Israel,” Global U-Grad Exchange Program 2008-2009 participant and a recent winner of Inter-American Press Association scholarship. César believes diversity in every aspect of life has to be respected, celebrated and understood, because it is the first condition to work together towards a collective goal. He has learned that economic prosperity and abundant natural resources are secondary if society does not build a strong social capital.
Kwabena is a 26 years old Ghanaian currently studying for M.A Public Management and Governance at Zeppelin University, Germany. He holds a BSc. Business Administration from University of Ghana and has worked with Public, Private and Public Private Partnership organizations especially in the field of international educational exchange and intercultural development programs. Michael has worked at the International Programs Office of University of Ghana and as an Intercultural Resident Counsellor on board a “floating university” called The Scholar Ship. Until his master’s studies he joined a forex trading firm working as financial analyst.

Born in the Philippines, Lilia grew up in Spain where she graduated in Law at the University of Murcia. She completed a Masters in Economic Development and International Cooperation in 2009. For more than five years she has been involved as a volunteer in UNICEF and has worked as a project assistant in Palermo, Italy, writing non-formal educational projects in democracy, youth participation, poverty and social exclusion issues. Currently Lilia is living in Ecuador for a traineeship in an environmental foundation. She has always dreamed of working in projects that will allow her to help people be conscious of their own abilities and develop them to improve their communities.
Kevin Potter Jr.
Kevin is a senior at the University of New Orleans, USA, majoring in Urban Planning and Regional Studies with concentrations in urban design, transportation and resource management. He is actively involved in various student bodies of his university. Kevin has completed field work studying the Arts in Rome and water management in Morocco. Kevin has also worked in the community as an intern for the New Orleans City Planning Commission, an educator for the Louisiana State Museum, and is currently employed by Louis Vuitton as the Operations Manager. A graduate of the prestigious Holy Cross School, he is native to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Didacus Okoth
Didacus joined the Makerere University Kampala in 2007 where he obtained a degree in Mass Communication focusing in Public Relations. Didacus has worked as the national coordinator for the Uganda Integrated Community Based Project since 2006. In this position he has done work in fundraising and has managed the HIV/AIDS Program. In addition, he worked in the research of HIV prevention and has been active advocate against Gender Based Violence.
Michael McGee
Michael’s love of linguistics, travel, and international exchange was first fostered during his study of foreign languages and literatures at the University of Delaware, which took him abroad to Austria, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland. However, recent volunteer trips to Guatemala and Haiti brought the cultures and development issues of Central America and the Caribbean into his scope of interests. Indeed, these experiences left a profound impact on him, and his hope through Recrear is to help others to envision their own opportunities to learn through experience and realize their potential to truly make a difference in the life of another through hard work and cooperation.
Suhani is a student of Journalism at the University of Hong Kong and is pursuing a double minor in Politics and African Studies alongside her degree. As a journalist, she aims to empower people by reaching beyond the media censorship in countries to bridge the gap between the real and the distorted. Before attending university in Hong Kong, she was born and brought up in India where she experienced all kinds of diversity be it social, economic or cultural.
She loves teaching and has been a volunteer teacher at schools in New Delhi, traveled extensively to spread HIV/AIDS awareness in India and recently taken a trip to Ghana to pioneer the formulation and execution of a Sexual Assault Prevention Program for children in the city of Kumasi. An avid writer and passionate musician, Suhani believes in the power of the arts, and hopes to incorporate its countless benefits in her endeavor for community development.

Komal’s passion for fundraising consumed most of her life in high school and now, in university. From the age of 15 she began fundraising for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation creating a new platform for youth activism and fundraising in her local community. Her passion also extends to international causes, including the campaign to end femicide in the Democratic Republic of Congo, an issue that motivated her to pursue a triple major in Journalism, Economics and Human Rights at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Komal acts as co-event chair of the Carleton University Relay for Life, a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, an event that raised $50 000 during its inaugural year (2010). Moreover she is Vice President of Communications for AIESEC Carleton, an organization that continues to ignite her passion for networking, travel, media and the world. She looks forward to contributing her skills to the Recrear.beta team.

Maya Fenning
Maya is currently living in Tel Aviv, Israel, and is studying social work and history in the University of Tel Aviv. Simultaneously, Maya has been highly involved in advancing refugee and asylum seeker rights and giving humanitarian help. In the past she has volunteered in Physicians for Human rights as head of the Open Clinic which serves immigrant workers, refugees and asylum seekers and all persons who are neither entitled to medical services under current Israeli law and do not carry medical insurance of their own. Later, she continued to volunteer in a Youth Club enrolling 200 Unaccompanied African Minors seeking asylum in Israel and is volunteering them to this day. Maya has also been involved in organizing numerous demonstrations in order to advance human rights and hopes to continue to do so in the future.
Born in the south of Germany, Lisa followed her wish to experience a completely different way of life and spent half a year in Pretoria, South Africa. Doing voluntary work in a Day Care Centre, living and working in a township, she was fascinated by the community life and the way culture was valued. To keep a strong relationship to the welfare of the human being she studied two semesters of Biology at the University of Ulm. Currently Lisa is pursuing a degree in Social Work at the Alice Salomon University of Applied Science in Berlin.
Profoundly shaped by her experiences in South Africa and travels to Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Lesotho, she now concentrates on her passion for intercultural learning, migration and refugee solutions.

With more than 10 years experience of working in media related fields, Shahid is currently pursuing Masters & Media and Communication at Uppsala University and is working on his thesis entitled Communication of Corporate Social Responsibility in under developed countries. Born, raised and having worked in Pakistan, he has closely observed the state of affairs related to sustainability especially response by the business concerns towards it in a developing country. Moreover, being a social scientist, traveling and international exposure has provided him great opportunity in broadening horizon. Off late, he has worked as volunteer in Media Centre at UN HQs in New York. With this background, he hopes Recrear.beta is sure to further brush up his abilities and prepare him to play role in ushering in an era of positive global change and wok as a social activist to generate socially beneficial projects.

Laura is a student of anthropology and cooking who recently paused her traveling career to settle in New Orleans, pursue her activist roots, print out photographs and play with dogs. In the future she hopes to use her mind to make a difference and her feet to see the rest of the world, perhaps even at the same time.

After having spent the last two years between the US and Germany, her near future plans include building Recrear and receiving a Masters of Public Policy in Singapore.

Zarife‘s passions are languages and cultures. No surprise, being second generation Kosovan immigrant in Germany. During her Linguistics Masters in Berlin she decided, that her future is in engaging for society. To widen her horizon, she took on a student assistance in the German Parliament. She sees Recrear as a stepping stone to promote intercultural understanding between the world‘s youth.
Kirsten Williams
Though Kirsten was born Canadian, she has over the years come to recognize herself as a global citizen who thrives on all cultures. After having spent 4 years in Indonesia and 3 years in Tanzania during her youth, it was no surprise that she learned to cultivate a love for the world of development. Since returning to Canada Kirsten has become the Vice President of Corporate Relations with AIESEC Carleton. Within this chapter of the world’s largest student-run organization she has a commitment to bringing interns from abroad to work for companies and even NGO’s in Canada’s capital. She has also kept a firm commitment to Model United Nations and has frequented many conferences over the years. Yet coming into Recrear.beta she hopes to bring into focus her passion for development theatre, one first cultivated during her time in Tanzania.
